Marc Leppard

Marc Leppard, a Senior Adviser to StoneTurn, has more than 25 years of senior management experience in risk, ethics and compliance issues in both corporate and financial services sectors. Marc has specialized in change programs in areas such as corporate compliance, investment banking compliance, anti-bribery and corruption, financial crime prevention and investigations, often in response to serious incidents.

A former regulator, Marc takes a pragmatic and creative approach to problem-solving and is well-versed at advising and operating at the C-suite level. He has developed and led compliance program teams in response to incidents leading to ethics and compliance monitorships.

Immediately prior to StoneTurn, Marc worked for 10 years in a variety of roles at BP. He last served as Global Head of Business Integrity, where he revamped BP’s approach to whistleblower cases and investigations. Previously, he held senior Head of Compliance roles in BP’s downstream and trading businesses. In his first role at BP, he developed and led a global compliance change management program within a trading unit, in response to a settlement of a trading manipulation case brought by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and a U.S. regulator.

Previously, he was the Executive Director of Regulation and Compliance at an investment exchange (ICE Futures), where he ran its regulation, legal, membership, investigation, market surveillance and policy teams. He was also global head of compliance at Credit Lyonnais Rouse and ING Barings Derivatives. Additionally, Marc was a regulator at the Securities and Investments Board (a forerunner to the U.K. Financial Conduct Authority). Earlier in his career, he held investigative roles in the U.K. civil service (Home Office and Parliamentary Ombudsman).

Marc has been a subject matter expert, advising a European Commission working party on financial regulation. He has participated in various industry committees, including Clearing House Risk Committee, FSA Market Abuse Committee, and trade association working groups.

Marc has spoken on financial services, investigations, compliance and ethics topics at various conferences. He has trained management and staff on ethics and compliance matters across many cultures and geographies.
