Matthew Kahn, an Academic Affiliate at StoneTurn and a Provost Professor of Economics at USC, has more than 20 years of experience in energy and climate economics and is currently ranked by IDEAS (based on RePEc) as among the top environmental economists in the world.

Matthew has held appointments at Columbia University, Tufts University, UCLA, and Johns Hopkins University. He has also served as a visiting professor at Harvard, Stanford, and the National University of Singapore.

From 2017 to 2019, Matthew was the chairman of the Department of Economics at USC and in November of 2020, he started Climate Economics Consulting, which helps clients develop creative strategies to adapt to new climate change regulation and the effects of global warming. He has had ten books published and has authored close to 200 articles and papers. He has been a keynote speaker and award recipient at conferences and events in North America, Europe, and Asia.

His research is focused on urban and environmental Economics, and he is a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and a research fellow at IZA. From July 2019 to July 2021, he was the Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of Economics and Business at Johns Hopkins and the director of their 21st Century City Initiative. He has a RePEc Last Ten Year Ranking of #186 amongst 50,000 economists around the world.
