Joel Hay, an Academic Affiliate of StoneTurn and Professor and Founder in the Department of Pharmaceutical Economics and Policy in the School of Pharmacy at USC, has over 40 years of experience in health services research, health policy, health economics, pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research and has authored more than 600 peer-reviewed scientific articles in these fields. In addition, Dr. Hay is an inventor and pioneer in the areas of using econometrics and machine learning to detect causal outcomes effects in real world data, despite observable and unobservable confounding.

He is a health economics research scholar at the UCLA Center for Vaccine Research and is the founder of Value in Health, a peer-reviewed health economics journal that was ranked #3 among all scientific journals in its field. Dr. Hay has testified to government bodies, at the state and federal level, on health economics and other issues. He is the founding executive board member of the American Society for Health Economics and the International Society for Pharmaceutical Economics and Outcomes Research.

He has served on the U.S. Agency for Health Research and Quality Health Services Research Study Section. He has also served as a consultant to the U.S. National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the American Heart Association.
