Carlos Flavio Lopes

Carlos Flávio Lopes, a Managing Director with StoneTurn, has over 10 years of experience in business intelligence and investigations in Brazil and Latin America. He regularly advises multinational corporations, sovereign funds and other clients in the financial services industry in pre-M&A and pre-IPO investigative due diligence.

Carlos has extensive experience assisting local and global clients mitigate risks associated with prospective transactions, partners, and third parties. He employs a tailored approach to identify risks related to fraud, corruption, conflicts of interest, litigation and reputation, and is a trusted partner for his clients they are undertaking important decisions.

Carlos has worked both in Washington, D.C. and in São Paulo, Brazil. He has delivered and led teams of investigators producing due diligence analyses, third-party reviews and background checks. He has also led complex investigations that have included data analytics, forensic accounting, computer forensics, investigative interviews and field work. He has been interviewed as an expert in print and television media on issues such as compliance, business intelligence and investigative due diligence.

Additionally, Carlos has conducted large national and international asset tracing investigations and has participated in compliance monitorship projects in Brazil and abroad. He regularly works in lockstep with counsel, particularly on matters related to sensitive investigations and litigation support cases.

Prior to StoneTurn, Carlos was an Associate Managing Director at a global risk advisory firm. He holds a B.A. in international affairs and political science from The George Washington University. He is fluent in Portuguese and English, and he is proficient in Spanish.
