Julia Arbery

Julia Arbery, a Partner with StoneTurn, has more than 15 years of experience in ethics and compliance. Specifically, she assists multinational corporations with the development and implementation of effective ethics and compliance programs across their global operations. Recently, Julia worked as part of the Forensic Adviser team supporting the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ)-Appointed Independent Compliance Monitor and Auditor of Volkswagen AG – one of the largest and most high-profile corporate compliance monitorships in history.

Throughout her career, Julia has focused on designing and implementing effective ethics and compliance programs. Julia has trained and coached employees who have only just entered the workforce to highly experienced executives on corporate Codes of Conduct and Ethics as well as the underlying, compliance policies and procedures. She has deep experience in helping small and medium sized organizations as well as multi-national corporations meet global compliance and ethics standards as well as government agency expectations., In addition Julia specializes in the establishment of whistleblower frameworks and investigative protocols that comply with global data privacy and protection regulations.

As part of the VW monitorship team, Julia served as the key contact for the Audi brand and the Volkswagen Works Council. She co-led the Supervisory Board of Management testing for both VW and Audi and partnered with a multidisciplinary team of attorneys, forensic accountants and compliance professionals responsible for the VW Code of Conduct, Integrity, HR Compliance and Integrated Compliance Risk Assessment. Her specific focus was on the design and implementation of the VW Code of Conduct, ensuring all compliance, integrity and training protocols were met. Julia also led the review of VW’s Integrity program, including the development of company values to ensure that compliance provisions were integrated throughout the employee lifecycle.

Prior to joining StoneTurn, Julia was the Senior Corporate Compliance Manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Global Data Protection Officer for OSI Systems, where she was responsible for implementing OSI’s refreshed Code of Ethics & Conduct and also oversaw due diligence processes for third-party business partners. In addition, Julia designed and launched the company’s Data Privacy Program, including registering U.S. entities under the Privacy Shield. Previously, Julia was the Ethics and Compliance Advisor for the European Fuels businesses, as well as for both Upstream PSCM and Downstream PSCM functions at BP. She began her compliance career with Siemens AG, where she was responsible for reporting to the Corporate Disciplinary Committee to facilitate the assessment of misconduct by members of Siemens AG management identified during the course of internal or official investigations.

In 2019, Julia co-founded the German Chapter of the Women’s White Collar Defense Association (WWCDA) and currently serves as one of three chapter officers working to promote diversity and advancement opportunities for women in white collar defense. Julia is also a member of leading Germany-based compliance organizations, including BCM, DICO and DAJV, and as such has been active in hosting speaking engagements and networking events for German compliance professionals.

Julia holds an Advanced Certificate in Anti-Money Laundering, Fraud Prevention and Anti-Bribery and Corruption from the ICA (in connection with the University of Manchester), and specializes in German employment law. She is a native German speaker, is fluent in English, has a working knowledge of French, and a basic knowledge of Russian.
