Transparency International Austria (TI Austria) has expanded its Management Board and appointed Dr. Alexander Picker as its new chairman, and recently welcomed StoneTurn’s Kristof Wabl as a new addition to the board.

Kristof Wabl, Partner with StoneTurn, was elected as a new member of the board of TI Austria at the June 2023 general meeting. In addition to his work with StoneTurn, Kristof also leads the task force focused on whistleblowing for TI Austria, a post he has held since 2016. He contributes his many years of global expertise in the areas of compliance and whistleblowing to help advance the dialog with key stakeholders.

Kristof said: “I would like to express my sincere thanks to all members for the trust they have placed in me, and I am very much looking forward to working with the Management Board of TI Austria. I am especially grateful for the dedication of Eva Geiblinger, who co-founded TI Austria 18 years ago and spearheaded our efforts as chairwoman ever since. Through my previous involvement in the Whistleblowing Taskforce, I know that TI Austria has already made great progress in recent years in creating awareness of corruption and combating it. In my new role as a board member, I will continue to advocate for further improvements in the protection of whistleblowers and thus advancing anti-corruption efforts.”

Mr. Picker commented: “In addition to demands, TI Austria has also presented concrete statements and recommendations on various topics. TI Austria’s experts will continue to collaborate with me in the future on a comprehensive anti-corruption portfolio with concrete solutions for Austria. We remain the ‘workhorse’ and will continue to present legislators with constructive and concrete proposals for improvements to increase transparency.”

Together with the members and experts of the working groups, TI Austria will continue to work on the catalog of measures, some of which have already been implemented but still need to be sharpened. These include working towards improving the Whistleblower Protection Act and tightening up the Lobbying Act, as well as integrating the topics of transparency and anti-corruption into the curricula of Austrian educational institutions.
