He often is engaged by clients to perform special investigations involving highly complex and sensitive matters on behalf of corporate boards, committees and regulatory agencies around alleged improprieties by corporate officers and directors, as well as irregularities in financial reporting. Michael led the firm’s engagement as the Independent Consultant required under the terms of the Settlement Agreement entered into between a major global financial institution and the Department of Justice (DOJ). He played major roles in the firm’s engagement as the Compliance Monitor appointed by the New York State Department of Financial Services for a large mortgage servicer, as well as the engagement by the Monitor, appointed by the DOJ, for a large multi-national bank.
Michael served as President and CEO of Eureka Federal Savings and Loan Association, and as Chairman of the Board and President of its various subsidiaries engaged in mortgage banking, real estate development, hotel and resort operation, and asset management. In his role as President and CEO, Michael reorganized and refocused Eureka’s lending activities, and spearheaded an effort to transform non-performing assets into performing assets. Prior to being appointed President and CEO, Michael served as General Counsel, and was responsible for the identification, analysis and resolution of more than $1.7 billion of non-performing assets, and the supervision and disposition of over 450 litigation matters.
Michael was also a consultant with McKinsey & Company, where he performed a number of strategy and operations studies for clients in the financial services, real estate, transportation, oil and gas, distribution, retail and hospitality industries.
