Julie Copeland, a Partner with StoneTurn, brings over 20 years of experience advising the world’s largest financial institutions on anti-money laundering (AML) controls; issues related to economic sanctions, anti-bribery and corruption; as well as multi-jurisdictional business disputes. She provides clients across a range of industries with pragmatic insights into launching and maintaining effective anti-corruption programs worldwide.
A former federal prosecutor for the Eastern District of New York, Julie left public service in 1995 and subsequently served as Head of Global Monetary & Financial Control Group, Compliance at Merrill Lynch; General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at IDB Bank; Head of AML and Sanctions Compliance for the Americas at Société Générale; and General Counsel, Global Financial Crimes at JP Morgan Chase. In fact, Julie was appointed the first General Counsel to advise JP Morgan Chase’s compliance departments and business units globally regarding AML, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and economic sanctions issues. As such, she brings significant experience overseeing OFAC, FCPA and political contributions compliance, as well as directing international teams.
Prior to joining StoneTurn, Julie was General Counsel, Corporate Secretary and AML Officer for a start-up institutional broker-dealer in the Fintech space. Earlier in her career, Julie served as an Assistant United States Attorney with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, EDNY, as well as an Assistant District Attorney with the NY County District Attorney’s Office.
