Dr. Yong Xu, a Managing Director with StoneTurn, brings over 20 years of experience in the application of economics, finance, and statistics to complex business issues. He has provided expert witness support in numerous commercial litigation matters and provided insights in disputes related to securities fraud, antitrust, patent infringement, trademark and trade dress infringement, and class actions.
Dr. Xu’s antitrust work includes the analysis of factual and statistical evidence relating to relevant market definition, market share, barriers to entry, the exercise of market power and its impact on competition. In securities fraud matters, he has assessed the relationship between security prices and the release of financial information in connection with class action litigation. Most recently, he has also assessed values for complex derivatives and fixed income securities and analyzed the market manipulation claims for high frequency trading in options. Dr. Xu’s experience in other litigation areas includes the calculation of economic damages from patent infringement, the statistical analysis of chance versus skill in gaming, and the valuation of employee stock options and compensation packages. In addition, he provided expert witness support for the United States Postal Service.
Dr. Xu has managed several litigation and valuation consulting engagements for Fortune 500 companies in a range of industries including asset management and banking, biotech, computer software, food production and packaging, energy, mining, moving and storage, office supplies, pharmaceuticals, rental cars, semiconductor, shipping, state governments, student loans, telecommunications, technology, tobacco, and trade credit insurance.
Prior to joining StoneTurn, Dr. Xu was with consultancies Econ One Research and Micronomics, where he served as an economist and provided expert witness support. In addition, Dr. Xu worked as a Director and Rates Strategist in sales and trading in Derivative Products Group at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), Capital Markets. Prior to SMBC, Dr. Xu worked as a quantitative analyst in fixed income research at General Electric Asset Management.
Dr. Xu is a CFA Charterholder and fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
