StoneTurn’s Advance in Africa panel hosted by Partner Sarah Keeling, and moderated by renowned journalist Rageh Omaar, brought together leading industry experts to explore investment opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa. Temi Marcella, Partner at Alcent Capital, provided insight on Africa’s investment landscape, its transformative potential and significant upside for forward-thinking investors.

The Five Trends Shaping Africa’s Dynamic Investment Landscape:

The investment landscape in Sub-Saharan Africa presents a blend of complexities and unparalleled opportunities with substantial growth potential for forward-thinking investors. Find out more in the video and key points from the transcript below.

  1. Demographic Dividend: Africa’s youthful population—60% under 25—will exceed 2.5 billion people by 2050, creating a workforce and consumer base larger than China.
  2. Resource Wealth: With 30% of global mineral reserves and 60% of uncultivated arable land, Africa is a critical player in addressing global resource scarcity.
  3. Regional Integration: Initiatives like the Africa Continental Free Trade Area are unlocking a $3 trillion economic bloc, boosting intra-regional trade by over 50%, and enhancing market accessibility for investors.
  4. Digital Penetration: Rapidly expanding internet access provides fertile ground for technological innovation, with Africa expected to account for one in six global internet users by 2025.
  5. Policy and Governance: Improved governance and reforms are reducing investment risks, with African nations rising in ease-of-doing-business rankings and creating a more stable investment climate.

Temi notes that while challenges like infrastructure gaps and political instability persist, the scale of opportunities across Africa far outweighs the risks, making it a key region for transformative growth.
