Daniel Brinks, CPA, CFA, ABV

Daniel Brinks, a Partner with StoneTurn, draws on over 15 years of experience at the SEC to help clients with complex forensic accounting, valuation, investigative, and regulatory matters.

Dan works with clients across sectors and industries, and has significant experience with issues related to private funds, asset managers, and institutional investors. He also has deep expertise in accounting irregularities, valuation disputes, and corporate investigations. Alongside clients and their counsel, Dan develops investigative strategy, defines scope, and applies GAAP and auditing standards to disputed financial issues.

Prior to joining StoneTurn, Dan was a forensic accountant in the SEC’s Division of Enforcement. He worked closely with Enforcement counsel on high-stakes investigations and specialized in assisting counsel with:

  • Reconstructing financial records and transaction flows in matters involving regulatory exposure or litigation risk
  • Analyzing investment company portfolio management practices, related-party transactions, and valuation determinations
  • Preparing for and leading testimony of accountants, auditors, and senior finance professionals
  • Evaluating the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls
  • Investigating accounting irregularities and financial reporting misconduct
  • Coordinating complex technical issues across regulatory divisions, agencies, and subject matter experts.

Dan previously served in the SEC’s Investment Adviser and Investment Company Examination program, giving him unique insight into regulatory expectations and compliance risk. He began his career as an accountant for the Michigan Department of the Treasury and at a large public accounting firm.

He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), and Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV).
