Youssef Benzarti has 10 years of research experience in economics, focusing on Public Finance and Behavioral Economics. He has extensively studied how prices respond to different economic shocks, how costs and taxes are passed through to prices, how firms and individuals respond to different forms of government regulation and when and how firms may take advantage of consumers.
Dr. Benzarti has published in the most prestigious outlets in Economics and presented his work at top universities around the world. He has also been an invited speaker in several government and non-government agencies, including the US Department of the Treasury and the World Bank.
Dr. Benzarti has worked with the Federal Trade Commission on a case related to consumer protection. He has also advised the French Government on Value-Added Tax and firm subsidy related issues.
Dr. Benzarti is a Professor of Economics at the University of California, Santa Barbara, a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research and the Founding Director of the Public Finance Lab.
Previously, he was a Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles and a visiting Professor at Brown University and the University of Michigan.
Dr. Benzarti holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Economics and a Master’s in Management.
