David Stern, a Partner with StoneTurn, is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales, and has acted as parties’ expert or adviser on a wide range of complex commercial disputes since 1993.

Over the course of his career, David has acted as an expert, determiner or mediator and has given oral evidence before the court and arbitral tribunals, both in the U.K. and overseas, on many occasions. David has also been involved in investigative work related to financially-troubled companies.

Well regarded by clients and Counsel for his commercial and responsive approach, for many years now, David has acted in complex domestic and international litigation, arbitration and mediation.  His work has encompassed quantum and valuation analysis and accounting expert witness work from contractual disputes, competition and antitrust work, through to civil fraud on domestic and off-shore matters, and business interruption and insurance claims.  Parties to the disputes have ranged in size and structure, all operating in different sectors in the U.K., the U.S., the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.  David has worked with clients across a range of industry sectors such as mining, metals, energy, manufacturing, broadcasting and retail, among others.

David’s international arbitration experience includes quantum disputes between national and state-owned companies in the energy and mining sectors.  Other cases have included the quantification of losses across a range of sectors, resulting from the termination of supply and/or distribution agreements, licensing agreements, and production defects together with the tracing of funds.

Prior to joining StoneTurn, David was with a U.K. national auditing and accounting firm, where he served as head of the forensic accounting and dispute resolution department.

David is a member of the Academy of Experts, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and an accredited Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (“CEDR”) mediator.
