Phathu Makhadi

Phathu Makhadi, a Managing Director with StoneTurn, brings more than 16 years of auditing, forensic investigation and forensic accounting experience in both the private and public sectors. She is a Chartered Accountant with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Phathu conducts various types and sizes of investigations into allegations of procurement irregularities, fraud and falsification, bribery and corruption, money laundering, theft/misappropriation and extortion, among others. She has also provided expert testimony at several disciplinary enquiries.

Prior to joining StoneTurn, Phathu served as a Senior Manager in the Investigations Business Unit at the Auditor-General of South Africa. There, she led COVID-19 Government relief fund reviews, as well as procurement reviews of high-risk contracts awarded to suppliers/service providers. Phathu was a significant contributor to two special reports on the COVID-19 Government relief fund reviews, which were released to the public by the Auditor General in 2020 and 2021.

Phathu began her audit and forensic career at KPMG. During her nine-year tenure with the Big Four firm, she managed a variety of complex investigations for clients in both the private and public sectors.
