Growing Advisory Firm Adds Partner in Dallas, Strengthening its Investigations and Anti-Fraud Offerings
Global advisory firm StoneTurn is expanding its footprint in Texas with the addition of Bert Lacativo, a former special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), as a partner in Dallas. A forensic accounting, investigations and anti-fraud expert with extensive healthcare-related expertise, Bert brings more than 40 years of experience providing multidimensional, actionable and strategic counsel to clients addressing allegations of wrongdoing. He offers a hands-on approach to regulatory inquiries, partnering with clients to navigate investigations as well as developing programs designed to deter, identify and respond to misconduct.
“The pandemic created an environment ripe for fraudulent activity and businesses are working under a microscope,” said Christopher Martinez, StoneTurn’s co-founder and managing partner. “Practices around PPP loans and Medicare and Medicaid claims are being called into question. Bert’s expertise in forensic accounting and anti-fraud is critical to those facing alleged misconduct. As companies land in the regulatory hot seat, Bert’s significant experience overseeing and conducting high-profile, sensitive international and domestic investigations will be an asset to clients.”
Bert’s intimate knowledge of healthcare regulations, enforcement and investigations makes him a valuable asset when organizations must address allegations of wrongdoing. As an FBI special agent, Bert was recognized twice for his work to uncover false and inflated claims to Medicare and other government-funded programs. In addition, he participated in formalizing the first task force relationship between the FBI, Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG) and the New York State Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
Today, Bert advises multinational organizations on their efforts to develop and implement anti-fraud, anti-corruption and compliance programs designed to minimize the occurrence of fraud and other improper activity. His guidance has helped corporations across various industries, from oil and gas to healthcare, successfully avoid multi-million-dollar fines or achieve and comply with regulatory settlements.
“I’m thrilled to be joining StoneTurn and its highly respected team of business savvy advisers, known for delivering innovative and thoughtful counsel to clients confronting today’s most complex challenges,” Bert said. “My public, corporate and consulting experience provides unique, full-picture counsel to clients operating under increased scrutiny from federal and state regulators and law enforcement. I look forward to collaborating with StoneTurn’s compliance, investigations and financial fraud experts as we help clients navigate an unprecedented business landscape.”
Bert is an Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) Board of Regents Emeritus member, a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), licensed in Illinois, New York and Texas and is Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF). Bert has also been designated as a FINRA Arbitrator. Prior to joining StoneTurn, Bert held investigative and forensic accounting leadership roles in a Big Four accounting firm and at boutique consultancies.
