Global Advisory Firm Continues to Bolster Regulatory Compliance Expertise with Global Trade Controls Expert

StoneTurn, a global advisory firm that assists companies, their counsel and government agencies on regulatory, risk and compliance issues, investigations, and business disputes, today announced that Joshua Holzer, former Chief Counsel for Global Trade at Pfizer, has joined as a Partner based in New York. An international trade controls expert, Joshua brings a mix of government, private practice, and in-house compliance expertise to the firm.

Skilled at developing and implementing compliance solutions for a cross-border business environment, Joshua helps clients across a range of industries identify and mitigate risk related to dynamic customs, export controls, and economic sanctions requirements. He offers a unique, practical understanding of economic sanctions handled by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC); export controls under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) and the U.S. Department of State’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC); and import matters overseen by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP); as well as the international equivalents. Joshua also assists clients in managing supply chain and third-party risk.

“Even before the pandemic further complicated global supply chains, multinational organizations faced significant challenges in navigating the complex international trade landscape,” said Christopher Martinez, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of StoneTurn. “As businesses around the world seek to restore their operations to pre-COVID-19 performance levels, Joshua’s expansive capabilities in international trade are invaluable.”

Prior to joining StoneTurn, Joshua served for nearly a decade as the Chief Counsel for Global Trade at Pfizer, where he led the design and execution of global compliance protocols to mitigate risks associated with the movement of medicine to more than 175 countries. He also provided primary legal support for the sale and donation of Pfizer vaccines to strategic non-governmental health partners. Earlier, Joshua held roles at the U.S. Departments of Homeland Security (DHS), Commerce (DOC), and Justice (DOJ), and the U.S. General Services Administration. In these roles, he focused on the enforcement of export controls and economic sanctions laws and led investigations to promote integrity and deter fraud in U.S. government operations. In private practice, Joshua represented domestic and international companies on regulatory and criminal matters related to a wide variety of government investigations and enforcement actions.

A Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Joshua is a member of the New York State and District of Columbia bars. He has received several awards for his work, including Pfizer’s first General Counsel Award for Innovation, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Gold Medal Award for Distinguished Performance, and Special Service Awards from the Inspector General at both the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. General Services Administration.
