R. Subramaniam (“Subra”) Iyer, a Senior Adviser to StoneTurn Group based in Singapore and India, is a founder and partner of SmartKapital, an Indian Mergers & Acquisitions (“M&A”) consulting firm.
Subra has 21 years of experience with PricewaterhouseCoopers (“PwC”) Singapore, including 10 years as a partner. Subra founded and led the PwC Singapore Transactions practice, which provided financial, tax and commercial due diligence, and deal advisory services for multinational companies doing business in Singapore and Singaporean companies doing business abroad. He also led the PwC Singapore Crisis Management Group which focused on restructuring and forensic accounting services. While at PwC, Subra led several high profile investigations, including the China Aviation Oil Singapore trading scandal involving a Chinese state-owned enterprise’s $550 million loss in oil derivatives trading and insider trading.
Subra now splits his time between, and serves clients in, Singapore and India. At SmartKapital, Subra provides M&A services for cross-border deal involving Indian companies. He also serves as the Audit Committee Chair of Jurong Port Pte Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of a Singapore government enterprise focused on developing the country’s industrial and commercial land.
Subra is involved in the leadership of several nonprofit organizations, including being a founder of Executives Without Borders, which brings private sector management expertise to NGOs, and the World Toilet Organization, which is helping to bring sanitation to the 2.6 billion people in the world who do not have it.
Subra has extensive experience as an expert witness, both during and after his PwC career, including recent engagements by a Claimant in an ICC International Court of Arbitration, the Respondent in an arbitration claim in London, and on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants in Courts in Singapore and Indonesia.
Subra graduated with Honors in Accountancy from the National University of Singapore, is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore and a Life Fellow of the Insolvency Practitioners Association, Singapore. He also completed the General Management Program at Harvard Business School in the fall of 2007, and is an alumnus of that school.
As a Senior Adviser, Subra helps coordinate StoneTurn forensic engagements and investigations in India and Southeast Asia.
